Providing a variety of feeders and quality feed will attract many species of birds for your bird - viewing enjoyment. Position your backyard feeders where they will not be susceptible to attacks from house cats and large predatory birds.

Supplying a clean water source is an essential element of having a positive birding experience. Wild birds need clean water for drinking and bathing. The sound of running water will attract birds to your yard from great distances. Birdbaths need gradual sloping sides to allow birds to get into the water to bathe.

Having a variety of vegetation in your yard will attract many species of wild birds to your feeder. Each species has specific requirements for protection and nesting. Different sizes of shrubs and brush as well as variety of trees, can provide cover from weather and shelter for nesting

Bird feeders and birdbaths must be cleaned frequently. Mold and unclean feeders and baths can easily cause disease in wild birds. The potential for transmitting disease in wild birds increases when birds are concentrated in one area.
